To ensure perfect harmony with the Spirit colors, Longines combines these pieces with a beige leather strap, equipped with an interchangeability system and attached by a folding clasp. As such, the strap can be easily changed for a steel bracelet.

At this point in the collection, the reality is I have everything I "need." In real life I have four watches so, even in an imaginary collection, I like to keep things really tight. I have my sport watches covered and I have really pushed myself to imagine how many times I would wear these two yellow gold "dress" watches – something I have very little experience doing. Bottom line is I would be very excited to go into my watch box every morning and pick one of the four options above.
If Rolex is releasing a Day-Date with emojis, then we have officially entered a new realm in the watch space. Ben Clymer joked about a collector calling this watch a line in the sand for the brand. From now on, we will look at Rolex releases as pre-emoji or post-emoji.
He’s clearly proud of it. A little extra snooping reveals that he had this same watch on during Paris Fashion Week at the end of June, which is presumably near the time that he picked it up as it doesn't appear on his wrist – publicly – anywhere else before then. And good for him because, as I noted, getting a new stainless steel Rolex is no easy feat, and especially not the most popular model in a new release year.
If you look closely at the included macro detail images, you can see what I mean about the color – the aluminum has its own texture. Judging by the images, I do think that the color works really well on the dial and looks amazing with the legible and luminous white accents and the coldly industrial backdrop of the visible movement elements.
Breitling knows not everything has to be vintage. I adore how unabashedly contemporary the appearance of this Superocean is. It's sleek and rugged with a pop of color that couldn't be found in any other era. Breitling has a deeper back catalog than most watch brands, and yet, the company knows that to play big, it continues to innovate and offer its customers something fresh and exciting that no one else can compete with.
I will readily admit I'm not an expert when it comes to vintage Rolex. It's the most glaring weak spot in my watch-knowledge arsenal. There's so much nuance to the category, with minuscule details that are impossibly difficult to keep track of and there are plenty of fakes out there to confuse the issue. But still, I would have never guessed that the engine that had driven interest in the vintage watch market for so long could ever take a backseat to F.P. Journe and other indies.
Parmigiani Fleurier turns 25 years old this year. But rather than experience a quarter-life crisis like I – and many others – did, the company feels more focused and energized on its future, in both the near and long term, than I've ever seen it. If the Tonda PF line is any indication of the quality of design and watchmaking we'll see in the future from Parmigiani under Terreni's leadership, I think the company is in excellent hands.
Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino seems to favor his IWC Pilot's Watch Timezoner Chronograph. This combines the best of the Pilot's sleek, smart looks, with IWC's ability to make complicated watches that are easy to use. To change timezones, you just press and turn the bezel, watching the hour hand jump with it. Less time focusing on your watch means more time focusing on the pitch, right?
Departing from La Gomera in the Canary Islands and rowing all the way to Antigua, the team traversed 3000 miles of open ocean, taken on in two-hour shifts, 24 hours per day, non-stop for 36 days, 3 hours, and 33 minutes.
Even at the full price (roughly the same as that of a solid Seiko Prospex model), it's a good-looking 300m dive watch made in limited quantities as a collaboration with a storied dive equipment manufacturer and it has a higher-spec movement than we might expect for both the price point and format.
So here was the incentive. If you bought System 7.5, you would get – at no extra cost – your choice of either a piece of software called Conflict Catcher 3 (meant to help alleviate issues with third party applications running on the Macintosh), or … an Apple Watch – but not the one you're thinking of.
The strap is actually quick-change compatible and the Olympic 1932 Chrono Chime includes an additional wrist strap, as well as a pocket leash (should you wish to carry it like a pocket watch), and a leather neck strap for those who might want to try their hand at timing an Olympic sprint in the traditional fashion.
The watch hunting gods work in mysterious ways. Be it a rare gemset Patek Nautilus in a government auction of seized assets or a Cartier London watch at a small auction house in California, the best can be found in the strangest places. While Bonhams is a name we should all know on the watch auction scene, I did not expect to find a 1930s Cartier purse watch snuck into a weekly online sale. Yet, here we are.
Not every reference will have all of these dial types, and some can have additional variations within these marks. For example, I've only seen Tortues with later Mark 3 dials, which suggests the model wasn't introduced until the late '70s. Again, Matt Takata (@cartier_chronicles), was the first person I saw to begin publicly documenting these dial types, and I thank him for his help here.
For the first time in the 2100 MRG lineup, G-SHOCK introduces the new rubber strap borrowed from the MRGB5000R-1, launched almost exactly a year ago. It's a much different wearing experience than the typical thin resin straps on normal G-SHOCKs, with titanium inserts molded into the end link portion of the strap, a titanium twin–trigger clasp, and grooves for cutting the strap properly to size - yes, no extra strap overhang here, you'll need to size this to your wrist alone.
The Tri-synchro regulator itself consists of the glide wheel, coil-wound stators, and the IC and quartz oscillator that constitute the actual regulating system. In a Spring Drive movement, the glide wheel, stators, and IC fulfill the functions of the escape wheel and lever in a conventional mechanical watch, while the role of the balance wheel is fulfilled by the quartz crystal.
I personally love how the movement itself forms the dial, allowing you to appreciate the variations in surface finishing (clous de Paris, anglage, perlage, matte, brushed, polished…it's all there) and the tourbillon itself.
