I wasn't familiar with the Wadden Sea prior to learning of this Oris collaboration, and I suspect many readers in the United States are in the same boat. So what the story behind Oris producing a watch in its honor?

Today's watch is a really clean and sharp reissue. The matte black dial against the orange features on the bezel, hands, and outer track just look great. It's a modern watch in all ways except the design inspiration. The Zenith wordmark, the lowercase script automatic, and the old-school italicized DEFY fit the color scheme perfectly.

It's exactly what you expect from a Rolex GMT-Master in yellow gold, and that's why I like it so much. It would have been easy for the brand to have overcomplicated this – adding too many touches of green, doing some out there bi-color bezel combo. Instead, the designers decided to keep it simple, and what we have is a handsome addition to the lineup.

For some folks, wearing the most precise watch anyone has ever made, ever, anywhere, in the last 500 years of watchmaking, would be an incidental thrill, or worse, completely inconsequential. For others, the idea of paying that much money for a quartz watch – any quartz watch – would be at best risible, and at worst contemptible. But I got such a huge kick out of wearing it as you can scarcely imagine.

They addressed this very specific problem by introducing the 6159-7010. It took 20 patents and an unconventional approach to create the watch. Rather than incorporating a helium release valve like some of its contemporaries, the 6159-7010 never let any helium in the watch to begin with. It accomplished this through specially designed gaskets and seals. Again, water resistance doubled, and the "tuna," as it became known, was water-resistant to 600m.

They're gorgeous watches in the metal – at launch the HODINKEE Shop will have the white and blue model, and the panda model with red accents. That means that so far they're the only ones we've had a chance to see in person but they're so sharp they should come with a warning to not cut yourself looking at them (a joke I stole from Kung Fu Panda, appropriately enough).

Striewski picked it up, and then for whatever reason it didn't click with him and he let it go. He then found himself searching the Internet for it until he was finally able to find this one.
